I welcome you all to the official webpage of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology.
The department started its journey in 1980 as the Department of Humanities. Since then, it has undergone significant changes by fulfilling the demands of providing the students with humanistic education to meet the growing needs of communication, management, ethical concerns and societal and global understanding. The department has always tried to keep up with the changing trends and demands of time. Accordingly, its name was changed to the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) in 2012.
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) of DUET addresses the underlying relationships of the tech-nontech worlds and provides undergraduate engineering and architecture students with a solid foundation in the areas of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Business with special emphasis on interdisciplinarity. The department offers a broad range of courses including English Language (Theory and Laboratory Sessions), Economics, Accounting, Management, Marketing, Bangladesh Studies, Business Communication, Business Law, Entrepreneurship for IT Government, Industrial Law, Logic, Philosophy, Psychology, and Sociology.
It is important to note here that engineering is not just about machines and equations; it is also about understanding and improving the human experience in the changing global situations. The department is committed to nurturing engineering students with a well-rounded education, preparing them to be not only competent engineers but also informed, empathetic, and socially responsible professionals who can contribute to the advancement of technology by not overlooking the human essence. Besides, these competent professionals would also have a sound understanding of GDP, GNP, wealth maximization, utilization of limited resources with a view to bringing maximum output by industry-academia collaboration.
Finally, the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed to fostering pioneering research and educational journeys to shape a brighter future that balances technological progress with a profound understanding of the human experience and societal well-being. To align with DUET's vision of upholding Outcome Based Education, the department is dedicated to preparing graduates for ever-changing workplace environments.
