From the Desk of Head
It gives me immense pleasure in welcoming you to explore the virtual world of the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology. Established in the year 1980, as Department of Humanities, it has made a remarkable progress in a short span of time by fulfilling the major objective-to provide a student-centered communicative education, by which students would not only obtain specific knowledge about the disciplines they major in, but also develop critical thinking perspectives that could be applied in attaining academic excellence as well as in their professional life. In this changing trend, the Department of Humanities has been renamed as the Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) since 2012.
Being the multidisciplinary Department, HSS offers courses in undergraduate engineering programs namely; Accounting, Economics, English Language (theory and laboratory sessional) and Industrial Laws, Management, Psychology, and Sociology. It also offers counseling in Creative Writing, Career Counseling, Ethical Values in Society, Economy and the Contemporary issues of the growing innovative business & corporate world. In addition, the English Language Communication Skills (ELCS) laboratory provides opportunities for practice of English and communication skills in the form of task and problem solving for students in DUET. Through its focus on teaching – learning, the department attempts to encourage personal growth and opportunity. Its numerous resources and hard working faculty provide an opportunity for students to open a window to the versatile challenges of the ever changing current world. Its emphasis on multidisciplinary teaching has added further remedies to the students to become more dynamic in their professional arena.
