DUET Central Library Central Library at a Glance
The Library Building of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology, Gazipur is located between the Academic Building and the Student Residence Hall. Administrative Branch on the first floor of the building, Reading Hall, Bangabandhu and Liberation War Corner. On the second floor is the Daily Corner, Photocopy, Question Distribution Branch and Student Book Lending Branch. On the third floor there is a collection branch, processing branch, teachers’ book distribution branch, reference and thesis corner.
The library has a collection of about 35836 books, 338 periodicals, 252 magazines etc. In addition, five popular dailies are regularly maintained.
Note: The library is closed for lunch and prayers from 12.45 PM to 1.45 PM.
A Guide to DUET Central Library
Students are required to collect the prescribed form from the academic branch for the library card and submit the application form attested by the teacher of their department and the head of the education branch and with one copy photograph (attested).
MSC students will be able to collect the form from the administrative branch on the first floor of the library. In the case of re-admission in the same class, a new card has to be issued.The teachers have to collect the prescribed form for a library card from the Teachers’ Book Issue Branch (3rd floor), fill it, and submit it there with a copy of the photograph signed by the head of the department.
Online resources of the library such as IEEEs can be accessed from any IP address within the duet. However, in order to enter the Research 4 Life Consortium, one has to collect the password from the 3rd floor of the library.
First-year students will be able to issue 2 books, 2nd and 3rd-year students will be able to issue 3 books, 4th-year students will be able to issue 4 books and postgraduate students will be able to issue 3 books for a maximum of 15 days.
To issue the thesis paper requires the permission of the supervisor.
A fine of 25 paisa per day for the first 15 days and 50 paisa per day after the prescribed time for each copy of the book has passed. The next year’s book is not issued until a year’s fine is paid.
Parts of the library books can be photocopied. Photocopies are made at the rate of 50 paisa per page. Photocopies can only be made during office hours.
Books are being arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification 23rd edition. Please see the first summary of DDC 23rd edition:
