Message from Vice Chancellor

Located in a serene and green campus, Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur is only about twenty kilometers away from Shahjalal International Airport. DUET is unique in its scope and mission to foster engineering education in Bangladesh as it offers B.Sc. Engineering/B. Arch.  degree only to the eligible diploma engineers from around the country.  The M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs are also open for all eligible candidates who are capable of pursuing scholarly endeavors with a view to engaging in lifelong learning and thereby accelerating the innovation and developments in the field of engineering and technology.One of the leading educational and research institutes in Bangladesh, DUET plays a pivotal role in the respective domestic and global premises. At this juncture of the changes and the innovation going on all around the globe, DUET, Gazipur is always ready to take its lead and contribute to achieve sustainable goals.

Vice Chancellor's Biography

Professor M. Habibur Rahman graduated in Civil Engineering from BUET in 1982, Received M Sc. Eng. with specialisation in Environmental Engineering from BUET in 1984 and PhD in 1989 from the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK.

He has more than 40 years experience of teaching, research and professional Consultancy services. This includes one year experience as a Visiting Professor at Loughborough University, Leicestershire, UK.

He is the current Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur. He was the Chairman of Dhaka Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (DWASA) Board and the Pro-Vice Chancellor, BUET, Dhaka. He has also worked as the Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, BUET, Dhaka and as the Director of International Training Network (ITN) Centre for Water Supply and Waste Management, BUET, Dhaka. He is the Chairman of National Biogas Program and was the Member of Trustee Board of National Climate Change Trust Fund of Government of Bangladesh.

He is actively involved with research teams of different international universities in Australia, Canada, Germany, India, Japan, Switzerland, UK, and USA. 

He authored two text books named “Water and Environmental Engineering“ and “Solid and Hazardous Waste Management”, and has also been the contributory author of more than 20 books (published from USA, UK, Japan, India and Bangladesh). He published more than 200 papers in National and International Journal and Conference Proceedings.

He contributed three (Water Supply, Sanitation and Fire Protection) chapters in Bangladesh National Building Code 1993. 

He worked as a Consultant in about 100 major Civil, Water Supply, Sanitation and Environmental Management projects of national importance, including some UNCRD-Japan, World Bank, IDB, EC and WHO projects. 

He was elected as an International Board-member of International Water Supply Association (IWSA) (presently renamed as International Water Association) and IWSA-ASCEN Region. He is the International Board Member of Asian Academic Network for Environmental Safety and Waste Management and the Asia Pacific Association of Hydrology and Water Resources respectively. He is the President of Bangladesh Water Association. 

Presently, he is the Chairman of IEB, Gazipur Centre. He was the elected President   (2 terms) and Vice-President (3 terms) of University Teachers’ Federation. He was also the elected President (3 terms), Vice-President (3 terms) and General Secretary (2 terms) of BUET Teachers’ Association. 

He has been working as a Member of the Bangladesh Professional Engineers Registration Board and has been involved with the Board of Accreditation for Engineering & Technical Education (BAETE) of IEB. 

He received University Grants Commission (UGC) Award for publishing a textbook and Institution of Engineers (IEB) Award/Medal for his contribution in teaching, research, and professional services.
