From the Desk of Head

Welcome to the Department of Chemistry at DUET, Gazipur. Since the University’s establishment in 1980, the department has functioned as a full-fledged academic unit, offering comprehensive theoretical and practical education to engineering students. We are committed to building a strong foundation in chemistry that enables students to apply chemical principles effectively across diverse engineering disciplines.

The department is enriched by eleven faculty members—Professors (3), Associate Professor (1), and Assistant Professors (7)—nine of whom hold Ph.D. degrees with strong research credentials. Collectively, they have completed 27+ national research projects and continue to contribute through quality teaching, effective supervision, scholarly publications, and collaborative initiatives.

In 2010, the department launched postgraduate programs—M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D.—for both full-time and part-time students. Research lies at the heart of our academic mission. Our scholarly activities encompass the major branches of chemistry, including Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry, covering both fundamental and applied research. We also foster multidisciplinary collaborations with government research organizations and public universities to promote innovation and meaningful knowledge exchange. Currently, 46 postgraduate students are enrolled: 11 Ph.D., 6 M.Phil. and 29 M.Sc. To date, 14 students (7 M.Sc. and 7 M.Phil.) have successfully graduated. Our alumni are contributing to public and private industries as well as academia, with one graduate pursuing higher studies in the United States.

We remain steadfast in our commitment to excellence in education and research, preparing our students to meet the challenges of the modern workforce with competence, integrity, and innovation.

Best wishes
Dr. Nour Md. Mofiz Uddin Khan
