From the Desk of Head

Established in 2017 under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Department of Chemical Engineering at DUET, Gazipur offers a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering with an annual intake capacity of 30 students. The program is structured to align with contemporary advancements in the field, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills to address the growing demands of the chemical and process industries both nationally and internationally. Graduates of the department have gone on to make meaningful contributions across a wide range of sectors, including energy, environment, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals, and materials engineering.

The department’s academic and research activities focus on advanced and emerging areas of chemical engineering, including reaction engineering, heat and mass transfer, process modeling and simulation, transport phenomena, catalysis, biochemical engineering, and sustainable energy systems. Special attention is given to environmental engineering, waste minimization, renewable energy, and green process development to address the challenges of modern industry and sustainability. Students are encouraged to engage in hands-on projects and research activities, enabling them to specialize in areas such as plant design, process optimization, safety engineering, and quality control.

To support cutting-edge research, the department is equipped with a wide range of modern laboratory instruments, including UV-Vis spectrophotometer, Wastewater characterization instruments like BOD meter, COD meter etc., Corrosion testing apparatus, cooling tower, CSTR, PFR, and process control units. In addition, computational resources and software tools for simulation, modeling, and data analysis enhance the department's capability in research and education. This strong foundation in both experimental and computational techniques allows the department to maintain an interdisciplinary approach to problem-solving and innovation.

With a focus on academic excellence, practical skills, and research innovation, the Department of Chemical Engineering is committed to producing highly skilled engineers ready to contribute to industrial and technological advancement both locally and globally.
