Dhaka University of Engineering & Technology (DUET), Gazipur organized a discussion session and rally on Wednesday, 6 May 2026, to celebrate World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2026, under the theme "IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate." The event was chaired by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Zoynal Abedin, with Professor Dr. Md. Saidur Rahman, Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), attending virtually as the Chief Guest.
In his presidential address, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that intellectual property protection is a fundamental right of researchers and innovators, essential for ensuring recognition and commercialization opportunities. He stressed that without adequate IP awareness, innovators risk losing credit for their work, and urged faculty members and researchers to deepen their knowledge of IP application and registration processes to strengthen their national and international standing. He also called for contributions to DUET's sustainable development through excellence in education, research, and innovation.
Professor Dr. Md. Obaidur Rahman, Director of IQAC, as Special Guest, highlighted the growing need to understand IP laws and policies in the global knowledge-based society. The session was moderated by IQAC Additional Director Professor Dr. Shafiqul Islam and attended by deans, directors, department heads, faculty members, and administrative officers. The celebration concluded with a rally across the university campus.
